BIOFerm, a Madison, WI based renewable energy company, is hiring a Cost Accountant.
This role will have responsibility for the organization's accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal and job records, the preparation and interpretation of its financial and job reports for management and external groups.
With close direction from the VP of Finance, this individual will also have responsibility for ensuring appropriate internal controls are maintained, relevant forecasting and financial reporting data is accurate, and budgetary constraints are monitored.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform month-end functions timely and accurately; including assisting with preparation/review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial and management reports
Maintain accounting ledgers by verifying and posting transactions to the appropriate G/L accounts and departments
Interpret operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the organization and make specific recommendations for cost reduction and/or profit improvement
Complete budget-to-actual analysis; ensuring actual expenditures do not exceed authorized amounts
Review and process accounts payable, including working with Accounts Payable and Purchasing regarding discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders, and responding to vendor inquiries
Process payroll, working with Human Resources and external payroll provider
Assist with project estimates, budgets, forecasts, actuals, and costs to complete (CTC)
Determine and review prospective project write-off loss contingencies
Prepare monthly project projections based on interactions with Project Manager and knowledge of the business; including rolling cash flows for the next 12 months to drive overall company financials
Manage project cost data and ensure data integrity and accuracy including accounting classifications of all expenditures and documents
Assist in the preparation and issuance of invoices, account statements, and supporting financial documentation to customers
Assist with the development of operational procedures and document data flow and record maintenance and filing protocol
Assist with the development of system controls to ensure data integrity
Establish formal internal control policies and procedures
Research and ensure compliance with various jurisdictions
Work with external accounting software, audit, and tax vendors as necessary
Assist in other special projects
Competencies & Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum three years of accounting experience and/or successful completion of CPA or CMA exams
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Intermediate to advanced level of experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
Experience with construction or job costing accounting
Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
Self-starter, motivated to learn, and enthusiastic about continuous improvement
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
Experience with Acumatica ERP system preferred
Ability to lift at least 35 pounds
Valid US driver’s license
Must be authorized to work for any company in the United States.

Compensation is based on experience and is competitive.
