Status: Exempt, full-time
Location: Dane County, Wisconsin or willing to drive to Madison 2-3 days per week.
Hybrid work schedule available United Way of Wisconsin is seeking an organized, dependable, and mission-focused Accountant to join our growing team.
You will support our organization in the day-to-day operations needed to achieve our mission to support and enrich a strong statewide system that maximizes the capacity of United Ways to address human needs, improve lives and create lasting positive change across Wisconsin.
You will be responsible for grant reporting, billing, accounts receivable and state/federal compliance.
As an ideal candidate, you have at least two years of accounting experience, ideally with a nonprofit organization that receives state or federal funding.
Your organizational, communication, and leadership skills are second to none and you enjoy developing solutions that push innovative boundaries.
Under limited supervision, partners with our Accounting Manager to oversee assigned financial functions for entities managed by United Way of Wisconsin.

Accounting Administer policies, procedures, forms, and records in order to maintain an efficient system according to acceptable legal business and accounting standards.
Implement and maintain appropriate controls and enforce necessary polices in order to protect the organization’s assets and financial affairs.
Operate accounting systems, which shall be based on universally accepted accounting standards, in compliance with existing laws and contractual commitments.
Prepare revenue and billing for all managed entities adhering to all local, state, and federal guidelines.
Manage accounts receivable systems.
Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial statements and providing analysis of financial results with accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
Oversees and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual funder reports and grant trackers as required to manage revenue and maintain good standing with all funders.
Supports the President and CEO in working with the Finance Committees of Boards.
Keeps President and CEO well-informed of financial operations and recommends resolution of any financial related issues.
Compliance and Contract Administration Prepares required government reports and filings; ensures accountability with regulatory federal and state requirements.

Ensure grant compliance.
Engage in the administration of grant reporting, management, and audits.
Engage in the developing and utilizing data systems to inform and continually improve programing.
Maintain an effective management information system that will provide the Executive Director, Board, and staff, financial and special reports, as appropriate, that will aid in the management decision-making process and facilitate the efficiency and economy of operations.
Oversees the preparation of the annual 990 tax return and related state returns.
Manage vendor relationships and contracts, assisting in annual contract renewals and researching potential new vendors.
General and Office Operations Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors to assist in decision-making regarding operational activity and strategic goals.
Provide internal customer service by supporting staff needs around systems, technology, and facilities.
Oversees facility management, equipment maintenance and compilation of required documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements include: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or nonprofit management or two years of relevant accounting experience.
Demonstrated experience following general accounting principles and procedures.
Previous experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting program.
Intermediate to advanced skills in using Excel to perform complex reporting.
Previous experience and proficiency in MS Office business products.
Experience utilizing state and federal grant management systems for the purpose of invoicing and financial reporting.
Previous experience managing accounts receivable is required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate financial data and procedures to varying audiences.
Strong organizational and project management skills Knowledge of: Finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, required.
Nonprofit fund accounting principles preferred.
Laws and regulations relating to non-profit organizations; 501c3 rules and compliance, preferred.
Ability to: Plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.
Streamline and implement new structures and roles that create speed, efficiency, and support rapidly shifting business demands.
Operate a computer and other standard office equipment using current UWWi platforms including QuickBooks, Microsoft 365, and Monday.
