Job Summary: The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan.
One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials.
In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.
The Accountant is a member of the Waisman Center Business Office and is responsible for accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
Under general supervision, the Accountant will perform complex financial transactions including travel approval, purchasing, accounts receivable and payable and cash management functions.
In this role, the individual must have knowledge of University, State, Federal and agency policies and procedures.
The Accountant must interface with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including staff and departments within the Waisman Center and the University to ensure accuracy in financial reporting for 101, 136, 133, 135, 144, 150 and 233 account types.
This requires excellent administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills and considerable independence of planning, decision making, and action.
This position is responsible for a high volume of work which requires flexibility, sound judgement and attention to detail.

Education: Preferred Associate's Degree in a relevant field of study such as accounting or business Qualifications: The following is preferred: - One to two years of relevant work experience, preferably in a university research environment.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures relating to accounting, revenue producing.
activities, travel, payment to individuals, charge back systems and cash management.
- Experience using financial and research administration software such as ShopUW+, Cost Transfer Tool, SFS Purchasing Card and Reimbursement and WISER.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Excel.
The following is required: - Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage periods of high work volume.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Work Type: Full Time: 100% It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable Salary: Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications Salary is negotiable and will be based on experience and skills.
