us or (608) 419-4549 Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Department’s Financial Manager, this position is responsible for independently providing a broad range of complex program and financial auditing, reviews, and accounting services to all the department’s operations.
This position provides complex analysis, development, and implementation of procedures to ensure the most efficient, effective and implementation of work plans and/or procedures.
The individual in this role will interpret and analyze complex financial data; develop and maintain complicated automated financial systems; allocate revenues and expenses between appropriations and reconcile complex accounts.
They will perform various reporting functions.
This position is responsible for performing complex financial calculations; performing accounting analysis; managing and maintaining DOJ financial data across two funds, multiple appropriation types and many appropriations and reconciling and analyzing our trial balance and clearing accounts.
This position requires full knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and administrative code.
This position will manage, coordinate and track DOJ’s capital assets and coordinate the annual physical inventory.
They will preaudit and review Accounts Payable vouchers and this position reconciles and tracks many appropriations including both federal and state funding sources.
Errors in this position could affect areas beyond the division level and could result in a loss of federal funding or a lapse of state funds.
Salary Information The starting salary for the Accountant Senior position (pay schedule/range 07-03) is between $36 and $41 per hour (approx.
$62,400 to $85,280 annually) depending upon qualifications, plus excellent benefits.
Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
A one-year probationary period may be required.
Job Details This position may be eligible to work a hybrid schedule with some work occurring remotely, following an initial training period.
Note the duties and responsibilities of these position may require a higher percentage of onsite time.
Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.

Review and approve Accounts Payable vouchers for compliance with rules and regulations.
Interpreting, developing, and/or revising policies or procedures related to financial or grants processes.
Perform complex data functions in excel spreadsheets.
Experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
In addition to the qualifications listed above, a well-qualified applicant will also have experience with some of the following: Leading and/or training others.
Experience managing assets by tracking, reporting and or conducting physical inventories.
Experience using PeopleSoft Financial System.
