Role Overview: Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity.
We are looking for a Senior Accountant – Fixed Assets to perform both on-going and specialized fixed asset, lease accounting and finance assignments, often involving complex data, while exercising independent judgement as needed.
The position is located in our Deforest office and hybrid work is an option.
The Senior Accountant has primary accountability for a breadth of related accounting responsibilities for multiple entities in the organization and will operate in a shared services model.
The successful candidate will be self-driven, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to collaborate with other teams and team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain fixed asset accounting records and ensure their reconciliation to the general ledger.
Liaise with business partners to ensure construction in progress is capitalized appropriately and in a timely manner.
Coordinate fixed asset physical counts (audits) in accordance with company policy.
Manage lease accounting including payment schedules and IFRS reporting.
Ensure accurate accrual and timely payment of real estate and property taxes.
Support budget and forecasting needs related to capital spend, depreciation and related areas.
Monthly close tasks including journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as coordinating timely and accurate submission of financial results.
Ensure month end account reconciliation process is complete and accurate, reconciling items are current, and un-reconciled amounts can be readily explained and corrected.
Coordinate research and resolution for all reconciliation issues in a timely manner Coordinate completion of designated accounting procedures and deliverables related to the half year and year end UK IFRS close including internal/external reporting requirements.
Work with global team to develop, implement, and review Global Policies, Controls and Standards.
Assist with annual audit, including providing support schedules.
Lead and drive change by recognizing opportunity and implementing efficiencies.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial data and how it impacts others.
Position may also include: Preparing and entering other monthly and year end journal entries (not fixed assets related).
Understanding and cross training of accounting department tasks Identification and implementation of process improvements Complete or review monthly journal entries and accruals.
Assist in resolution of accounting system-related issues and regular update regression testing.
Training associate accountants and delegating appropriate tasks.
This may include working with the Accounting Manager related to balancing workload.
Overall ownership / responsibility for the project or task at hand to ensure completion.
Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
2 to 5 years of experience in accounting environment – with increasing areas and degrees of responsibility.
CPA certification preferred.
Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) Understanding of data analysis and forecasting/budgeting Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with and gain the cooperation of all levels of staff to resolve problems and provide advice and assistance.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Organization skills Strong analytical and decision-making skills; ability to prioritize and work within project timelines.
Ability to withstand stress and be flexible with working extended hours and weekends during closing processes.
Knowledge of ERP systems; Dynamics 365 is a plus.
