Position Overview: WHAT IS DE-BONING? De-Boning is the department at Johnsonville where Members remove as much meat as possible from the sow’s carcass.
The goal of De-boning is to remove all bones from the meat so that the meat can then be mixed with other ingredients to make it into brats, breakfast sausage and ground pork.
There are a variety of different positions on the De-Boning Floor, but all of them require some form of handling the sow’s body or body parts.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with safety, quality, and attendance requirements.
In addition, this candidate will establish and sustain effective relationships with all Members so that they may work together to promote innovation and cooperation in order to solve problems.
Responsibilities: Cutting and preparing meat for further processing Cleaning, sharpening, and maintaining knives, tools and equipment Learn and perform several job functions in department at line speed Maintain all applicable GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies Notify team leaders and/or maintenance of problems Perform all jobs in a safe manner at line speed Complete all other duties as assigned Experience: Knife Skills highly preferred Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Physical Demands: Most be able to lift 50 pounds Walking and/or Standing throughout the shift Bending and/or Reaching throughout the shift Skills and Competencies: Ability to perform responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner Communication Decision making Prioritizing Other Requirements: This job requires hands-on interaction with a variety of different cuts of meat from the pig, along with the bones of the carcass itself as well as any blood that accompanies it.
We want to ensure that candidates for this position have a high enough comfort level with the blood and bones of the sow.
TEMPERATURE - Will be exposed to wide variations in temperature, operating temperature of the Boning department is approximately 40 degrees F.
Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor Location: Watertown, WI Member Status: Full Time, Hourly Hours: 1st shift – De-boning starts at 5:55am.
The end time will vary depending on production needs; Overtime expected and required.
