*JOB OVERVIEW * The *Laboratory Services Manager* within Fisher Barton’s Technology Center will provide expertise and support to the testing and analysis of materials, will coordinate between Operations, R&D, and Quality Control, to support production and technical development.
The successful candidate will manage workflow through the laboratories by supporting the laboratory technicians, prioritizing requests, provide technical support for testing and failure analysis, as well as create a strategic vision for improving the operations of the laboratories.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Research and Development.
*ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: * * Understand and operate all laboratory equipment within the Fisher Barton Technology Center * Analyze current and future products in the laboratory for the purposes of: * Reverse engineering * Failure analysis * Product development * Process improvement * Quality control assistance, etc.
* Oversee materials laboratory equipment and test methodologies * Lead lab technicians, as well as co-op/intern students as necessary * Prioritize workflow through the laboratory * Lead efforts for laboratory data governance * Assist with development of internal and external material specifications * Develop new test methodologies * Develop strategic visions for improving laboratory testing and operations * Manage the laboratory budget * Oversee laboratory services for both our Watertown and Sun Prairie metallurgical laboratories * Communicate results with internal engineering, business development, product management, and quality control _The above statements are intended only to describe the general nature of the job and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of position responsibilities.

in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field * Experience in failure analysis * Experience with materials characterization * Project management experience * Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory technicians, R&D, Engineering, and Quality Control * Strong analytical background with deep knowledge in laboratory instrumentation and methodologies * Excellent communication (verbal/written), interpersonal and computer skills * Demonstrated ability to work across functions and among a variety of levels within an organization, on individual and group projects * Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and able to balance multiple tasks * Willing to travel to operational sites to provide technical support * A desire to lead and train people as well as shape organizational change * Ability to wear appropriate, required PPE *WORKING KNOWLEDGE:* * Knowledge and experience with various product test methods, fixture designs and usages, and test equipment operation (Metallurgical Microscope, ASTM G76, ASTM G65, SEM/EDS, X-ray Diffraction, etc.
) * Strong understanding of metallography * Strong understanding of ferrous metallurgy * Conceive and develop ideas for new test procedures * Working knowledge of common metallurgical standards * Machine operation and facility safety standards * Ethernet Networking * Oversee state of the art materials laboratory day-to-day operations * Establish a vision to continually expand capacity and capability *Travel Required: * * Manufacturing sites in WI and IL, travel as need * The central metallurgical laboratory is located in Watertown, WI but a smaller lab is also located in Sun Prairie, WI.
This individual is expected to go to the Sun Prairie site 4 times/month.
