General Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, this position administers group exercise classes.
Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes.
Group Exercise Instructors provide class participants with proper form and technique demonstration, exercise modifications, and exercise progressions.
Job Functions
Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
Ability to be professional and motivate class participants
Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.
e.
warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down etc.
Demonstrate modifications of intensity and impact
Encourage and motivate participants to work at own pace
Use proper cueing (visual, correctional and motivational)
File all necessary records with the Recreation department.
Act as spokesperson to the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation in regard to any emergency.
Keep the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation informed of pertinent information.
Be able to perform all first aid duties in case of an emergency.
Performs other related job duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.
Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of group Fitness.
Understanding of applicable emergency medical response training and certification requirements.
Education, Training and Experience
Must have and maintain a current Fitness or Group Fitness related certification.
Must have a current certification for the class you are teaching (Pilates, Yoga, WERQ, Zumba)
Must have a current First Aid certification or equivalent.
Must have a current Adult CPR certification or equivalent.
Continuing education/renewals of certifications kept up to date and submitted to the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation on or before certification expire.
