MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider.
We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting.
Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50+ fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.
Program Description:
Play on the Move is a free, drop-in mobile play program for the community in the Madison Metropolitan School District.
Our van brings unique play equipment for organized games, physical activities, and free play that encourages imagination and interactive learning experiences.
Play on the Move strives to bring equitable play opportunities to more families in the Madison community.
We encourage family play, guardians must stay with their child.
Job Description & Duties:
The Play on the Move Instructor is responsible for:
-Assisting with planning and implementing creative and unique play and learning experiences, for all ages, with the use of specialized equipment from the Play on the Move Van.
-Assist the lead instructor with leading Play on the Move and Learn 2 Ride.
-Driving a 15 passenger van (no special license required)
-Ability to work outdoors at public parks and while acting as a respectable representative of MSCR.
-Ability to stay active while leading children in physical activities as well as setting up and cleaning up various pieces of equipment.
-Work with and be flexible in adapting play to large ranges of ages, including preschoolers through middle school-age children.
-Engaging at all times with children and their families participating in the program.
As a part of the summer schedule, one day a week the schedule will include classes teaching youth biking.
Learn 2 Ride is an outdoor program that teaches youth, ages 4-13, how to ride a bike.
Staff teach children and their accompanying adult easy hands-on techniques to get the child riding solo on two wheels.
This innovative approach includes balancing, gliding and pedaling.
No experience teaching bike riding necessary; we train staff our approach.
Start Date: 5/27/2024
Program Dates:
June 1 - August 16, Monday-Friday (varied hours between 8:30am-8:30pm), some weekend hours may be available.
Work Location: Various Madison parks.
Hours/week: 40 hours per week.
Work hours: Hours vary between 8:30am-8:30pm.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
19+ years old.
Background in education, teaching, instruction or related field preferred.
Must be comfortable working outdoors all day in varied weather conditions.
Comfortable working with bikes (training provided), facilitate youth biking program.
2+ years working with youth, program planning, facilitating and demonstrated experience lesson planning creative and engaging activities with limited supplies for small and large groups.
Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record, comfortable driving a 15 passenger van.
Must prioritize being on time, be responsible, organized and a team player.
Prompt communication via email, text or phone calls.
Able to lift at least 40lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPR/ AED & First Aid certified.
Bilingual skills a plus.
Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
