Individuals seeking interest in the year round performing and visual arts program are inspirational, engaging, and supportive in the development of student skills not only in the area of dance, but also in music, visual arts, Hmong culture, language and traditions.
This position would focus on collaborating with the hired dance teacher in conceptualizing lessons and learning that would align the dance services.
This role supports the program goal of increasing access, identification and language acquisition through the medium of dance performing arts K-5 at Lakeview Elementary School on the northside of Madison and potentially at schools sites on the K-5 on the westside of Madison.
This position would co-plan with the dance instructor to create age appropriate content/materials that would connect with the teaching being done by the art teacher.

The Hmong Dance Teacher will serve as a co-teacher with content and language knowledge to assist the performing teaching artist, and as a liaison for students and families in learning about exploration of art through the usage of literacy, music, art, language, culture, tradition, and the medium of performing arts.
Position Title: Hmong Dance Staff Teacher
Department: Advanced Learning
Reports to: Dr.
Sharon Alexander, Director and Principal
Length of Work: up to ten to fifteen hours per day, five days per week, inclusive of setup/preparation.
30 weeks beginning October 2023 and lasting through June 2024
Working Conditions: Include travel, work at several campuses and be able to work with K-5 aged scholars
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff Teachers: will co-create and facilitate instruction with students, monitor attendance, and participate in discipline systems at the school site, including communication, consultation and support to students and families.
Collaborates with the Arts K-12 Director, Advanced Learning Director, or principal on concerns or needs.
Communicate needs in advance to prepare for student culminating events and share a plan for instruction and services working in collaboration with key individuals above.
The Teacher will be the primary supervisor of students if from MMSD in their workshop/session while in session, and will be asked to attend to student safety from arrival until dismissal.
Work with the program leaders in identifying potential students who need to continue developing skills through services during the school year and be identified for additional support in dance beyond this year and possibly for performing arts gifted identification.
Minimum Qualifications:
Deep knowledge base and excellent teaching and coaching skills within applicable literacy, visual and performing arts area(s)
Demonstrated commitment and an understanding of equity and Hmong Culture and Traditions
Demonstrated knowledge of academic, social, emotional and behavioral issues in the lives of K-5 students
Desired Qualifications:
Wisconsin State Teaching licensure for educators; supplemental certifications of licensure in elementary content areas.
3+ years of experience as a licensed classroom teacher or working artist in the field
