*SUMMARY:*
The Bilingual Resource Teacher provides specialized instruction that leverages students’ home language to develop the student's ability to develop English language skills and achieve academically, resulting in high levels of learning for students identified as Multilingual Language (ML).
This involves centering proven language development strategies in all educational programs and classroom environment; establishing effective relationships with students, caregivers and colleagues to increase the personal and academic growth of all student; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for lifelong learning.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* include, but are not limited to the following: * *Planning and Preparation* – Comprehensive understanding of language acquisition and its impact on students * Designs effective instruction and assessment based on the understanding of student growth and development as Multilingual Learners, as well as in district established curriculum and priority goals.
* Demonstrates knowledge, skills and dispositions, reflected through a collaborative process that will enable students to access the language of content area.
This may be accomplished through planning and practice, knowledge and understanding of prerequisites and/or misconceptions related to knowledge acquisition for Multilingual Learners.
* Seeks information from a variety of sources about students’ backgrounds, cultures, skills, language proficiency, interests, and individual needs.
* Develops and uses accessible instructional outcomes reflecting rigorous curriculum and language standards that take into account the diverse backgrounds and assets of individual students.
* Seeks out instructional resources in and beyond the school and district for use in teaching and to enhance professional learning.
* Coordinates knowledge of language acquisition, content and resources to design a series of differentiated learning experiences aligned to instructional outcomes.
* Assesses students’ skills and linguistic growth through the WIDA Language Development Standards while simultaneously assessing learning outcomes in various ways using clear criteria or standards, and then uses data collected to plan future instruction.
* *Classroom Environment* – Establishes an student-environment conducive to learning, including both physical and interpersonal aspects.
* Creates a caring environment of respect and rapport among students and teacher reflecting responsiveness to students’ varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
* Establishes a culture of learning characterized by teacher passion for the subject, high levels of active student engagement, and expectations for high standards of performance.
* Manages classroom procedures with students contributing to efficient and seamless operation of routines and transitions.
* Manages student behaviors by establishing, with student participation, clear standards of conduct and the expectation that students take an active role in monitoring their own behavior.
Monitors behaviors in preventive rather than reactive ways and responds to misbehavior with understanding of students’ individual needs.
* Organizes the physical environment to ensure that the classroom is safe and supports the learning and advocacy of all students.
* *Instruction* – Skillfully ensure students’ academic and language development, employing a diverse array of instructional strategies and resources tailored to support Multilingual Learners effectively.
* Communicates clearly and accurately with students, employing culturally and linguistically responsive approaches in both verbal and written communication.
* Utilizes culturally and developmentally appropriate questioning and discussion techniques, fostering an inclusive environment where all students’ voices are valued and heard.
* Adapt lessons continuously to cater to the individual need of each learner, employee structures and pacing that allow for student reflections and closure with facilitating language acquisition.
* Assesses learning in multiple ways that include: student understanding of assessment criteria, formative assessment (monitoring progress by both students and the teacher), and providing high quality feedback to students.
* Provide instruction to multilingual students, offering personalized support to enhance their language proficiency.
* Collaborate with classroom teachers through co-planning and coaching, ensuring multilingual learners receive inclusive and effective instruction across all subjects.
* Offer guidance and resources to students, assistants, and educators, facilitating access to appropriate materials and strategies to support language development in both academic and social contexts.
* *Professional Responsibilities* – These include, but are not limited to, self-assessment and reflection, communication with caregivers, participating in ongoing professional learning, and contributing to the school and district environment, ongoing collaboration with all staff.
* Reflects on lessons in a thoughtful, accurate way citing specific evidence and using experiences to suggest alternate and/or improved strategies.
* Maintains records in an accurate, honest, efficient, and effective manner.
* Maintains respect for professional and personal boundaries at all times.
* Communicates with families, in culturally and linguistically responsive ways and provides families information and opportunities that will enable them to participate in the instructional and extracurricular activities within the school environment.
* Participates in school-wide and district events and school improvement projects related to lifting the level of staff learning around language acquisition and instructional practices that promote language development.
* Pursues professional learning opportunities and initiates activities to contribute to the profession while seeking and using feedback from supervisors and colleagues.
* Shows professionalism and displays the highest standards of ethical conduct while complying with state laws, district policies, procedures and guidelines, and school expectations.
*SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:* This position supervises the following positions: Supervises students and paraprofessionals assigned to the EL Department.
*QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

*EDUCATION AND TEACHING/WORK EXPERIENCE:* * Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a core subject area with additional course work that leads to licensure as Bilingual-Bicultural licensure.
* Valid Wisconsin teaching certificate in the subject area of employment, (Bilingual-Bicultural Certification is required, ESL Certification is also preferred).
* Experience working with a diverse student population preferred (racially, culturally, socioeconomically varied).
* Experience in identification and assessment of Multilingual Learners preferred.
*COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:* Bilingual Language Proficiency across all language domains.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

*MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
*ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY:* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables, which may involve the ability to convey this information in multiple modalities to ensure student comprehension.
*OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES*: Ability to apply knowledge of current research around language, language acquisition and learning theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on student, teacher, building and district goals and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
