GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTORS**Immediate Openings Water Fitness Instructor and Fit For Life Instructor**

Under the supervision of the Fitness Director, the Group Fitness Instructor will provide safe, and motivating instruction with an emphasis on member engagement.
This will be done in accordance with the mission, and general operating policies and procedures of the YMCA of Dane County, Inc.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides safe and fun instruction based on class descriptions and feedback; provides adaptations based on individual needs.
Builds relationships with health seekers, staff and volunteers of all ages; focusing on engaging
members as whole persons and providing a personalized member experience in a supportive, uplifting environment.
Facilitates the development of small communities, helping members to connect with other members.
Knows and understands Health & Well-Being programs, department policies, and emergency
procedures; and is able to clearly explain said information to members.
Keeps certifications current, attends in house trainings and meetings, and seeks out relevant trainings to enhance knowledge and skills.
Becomes familiar with the basic class format designs and follows the appropriate format when teaching.
Arrives 10 minutes prior to class start time prepared with a positive attitude, appropriate attire, music and needed equipment; sets-up, greets members and takes attendance.
Works assigned shifts, arranging coverage if unable to work.
All time off must be approved in advance by supervisor.
Performs required safety, cleanliness and maintenance checks, takes the necessary precautions to prevent accidents, and reports any concerns to supervisor.
Returns all equipment to its appropriate place; keeping storage areas clean and organized for easy access.
Communicates clearly and professionally with supervisor, co-workers, and members as needed.
Supports and participates in the Community Support Campaign; and promotes member participation.
Follows program rules, YMCA policies and the YMCA Code of Conduct.
Acts as a positive role model while implementing YMCA healthy living policies, character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
Promotes YMCA programs, events and activities.
Performs other tasks deemed necessary by the Health & Well-Being Director.
?Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge of fitness program development, conditioning principles, and exercise physiology.
Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information.
Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs.
Specialty certification and/or two years experience related to classes being taught is preferred.
Flexibility in scheduling is preferred.
Possess or obtain within the indicated time frame the following certifications and keep all certifications current:
YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles required within 6 months of hire.
YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise and any applicable specialty certifications (ex.
Yoga, Pilates, Cardio/Step, Group Cycling) within 6 months of hire.
CPR/AED certification upon hire.
New Staff Orientation and Listen First required within 60 days of hire.
Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 30 days of hire.
Days & Hours: Various youth, adult, and family classes at various times
Pay Rate: Commensurate with Certifications and Experience
