Fall 2024: High School English Teacher Long-term Substitute Madison Country Day School, a PreK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, is seeking a creative educator to serve as a substitute in the High School for English beginning mid-August of 2024 and concluding in late October or early November 2024.
This position is to cover a faculty member in the English department who will be on leave.
The successful applicant will feel comfortable teaching high school students and facilitating creative opportunities for them to flourish and grow.
Applicants should possess not only a love of teaching English literature and written communication skills but should also express enthusiasm for engaging with students in the high school years.
The ideal candidate is an inquisitive and creative educator who inspires others through optimism, flexibility, and teamwork.
Teachers with a background in the humanities, experience with high school students, or a background in university teaching are all encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will: Enjoy working within a vibrant and collaborative school with students, colleagues, the administrative team, parents, and the broader school community, Connect and feel at ease with high school students, Be comfortable working with students to develop skills like critical problem-solving, questioning, and researching, Have experience teaching reading and writing skills, Design and facilitate imaginative, rigorous, and empowering lesson plans that are culturally competent, student-centered, and thought-provoking, Have intellectual curiosity and a desire to spark a love of learning in students, Have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities, Have a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment.
Qualifications: Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; At least 2 years of teaching experience; Excellent oral, organizational, and written communication skills; Excellent listening skills; Skilled at differentiating instruction; A belief in the intrinsic relationship between social-emotional learning and culturally responsive pedagogy.
