Job Summary: The Teaching Faculty in Chinese Language will teach two to three language courses per semester as part of the Chinese Language program in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures.
The person hired into this position will also be expected to participate in creating the content and materials of new, advanced Chinese language courses and be willing to plan and participate in other various activities to enhance the Chinese language program.
Responsibilities: Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning.
Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading.
Serves as an instructor of record.
5% Works with faculty to identify and develop new methods of advancing instruction in the discipline 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of these techniques 50% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading 10% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed 5% Assists in development of grant proposals for funding of model instruction programs 5% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties 5% May make presentations to faculty and to staff members on instructional programs and techniques 5% Provide formal and/or informal advising on students' academic and career direction.

Education: Preferred PhD PhD degree in applied linguistics, language education, linguistics, second language acquisition or a related field required.
Qualifications: One year of pre- or post-degree experience teaching Chinese to English speakers at the college level required.
Experience teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced Chinese language courses preferred.
Experience in supervising teaching assistants and curriculum development is preferred.
Work Type: Full Time: 100% It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
