This position will be a member of the Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research (DAPIR) office and a part of its Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS) team.
DAPIR manages the structures needed to ensure the availability of accessible, usable, high-quality data.
Along with campus partners, DAPIR promotes an institution-wide data strategy and the use of data to inform strategic initiatives and planning.
The IRDS team applies their knowledge of the institution and the broader higher education landscape to analyze information about students, faculty, staff, and administrative operations to support UW-Madison's strategic efforts.
This position's analytical work will focus on supporting just one office, The Office of Academic and Career Success (OACS).
OACS coordinates training, communication, assessment, and technology services for advising, career services, and learning support units across campus.
OACS also advocates on behalf of these three communities to campus leadership to ensure staff and student success.

A sample of potential projects include: - Analyzing staffing and caseloads in service units so that OACS can maximize impact.
- Evaluating the impact of career services programming.
- Determining the effectiveness of learning support programs.
- Assisting with developing and implementing campus-wide experiential learning data through data collection and analysis.

edu/ Responsibilities: Investigates, researches, gathers, analyzes, and summarizes institutional data in support of information and research needs for planning and policy-making decisions.
Provides management information, data analyses, and policy reports to inform strategic planning, decision-making, and resource allocation at the institutional level.
Provides advice to, and performance management support for executive leadership.

- Experience working with large data sets from operational data systems.
- Experience demonstrating data accuracy and addressing data quality issues.
- Able to communicate complex data analysis results to stakeholders in an easy-to-understand way, including reports, interactive visualizations, and presentations.
- Proficient with general inferential statistical and predictive modeling concepts and techniques.
- Able to manage varied projects, priorities, and duties with attention to detail.
- Experience using data and analytic approaches to evaluate the effects of policy decisions and inform policy development.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning around diversity, equity, and inclusion and applying that knowledge to your work.

- Proficient with a relational database query tool and SQL or similar database programming languages.
- Proficient with statistical software such as SAS, R, SPSS, or STATA.
- Able to build and sustain relationships.
- Experience responding to requests that are sensitive or political in nature.
- Experience guiding stakeholders to accurately define their questions.
- Familiarity with relational database design and dimensional modeling.
- Knowledge of higher education issues, including student services-related areas such as academic advising, career services, learning support, the student experience, student academic success, and post-graduate success and metrics.
- Experience constructing data sets from multiple data sources - Able to investigate operational processes and sources of data to construct meaning and draw conclusions while understanding the limitations of the data.
Work Type: Full Time: 100% This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
If desired, some work may be performed remotely at an offsite, non-campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration: Terminal, 24 month appointment.
