Job Summary:
The Department of Gender and Women's Studies at UW-Madison is seeking two visiting assistant professors for the AY 2024-25 to teach a 2:2 teaching load.
The position is approved for one year; a one-year renewal might be possible but not guaranteed.
Gender, Sexuality, and History: We are seeking applications from scholars whose research focuses broadly on the past and which employs historical methods.
Applicants whose research focuses on reproduction, health, disability, gender identity, or sexuality are especially encouraged to apply.
Any geographic location and time period are welcome.
Gender and Sexuality beyond North America: We are seeking applications from scholars whose expertise lies outside North America.
All disciplinary approaches are welcome, but we would be especially interested in applicants trained in Gender and Women's Studies, Anthropology, Political Science, and Geography.
Successful applicants will likely be required to teach either a humanities-based or a social science-based introductory course and supervise a team of teaching assistants.
These positions do not require that applicants already have tenure-track positions elsewhere.
Applicants must have their PhDs or other terminal degrees by August 19, 2024.
Responsibilities: In addition to advancing their research, successful applicants will be expected to teach two courses in Fall 2024 and two in Spring 2025 for the Department of Gender and Women's Studies.
One of the courses may be a large, introductory survey course that requires the supervision of a teaching team.
We will also expect the successful candidate to participate in the intellectual life of the department.
