Job Summary:
The Department of Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Classical Studies with a specialization in Latin literature.
The Department is most interested in candidates whose work bridges disciplines, especially in growth areas in the humanities, such as law and legal culture, ethnic studies, ancient information technologies or systems of knowledge, and science and technology.
The successful candidate will show promise for developing a robust and original research program, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and a commitment to service to the department and field.
The successful candidate will also contribute to an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses in Latin and Greek languages, including graduatelevel courses, as well as courses in translation, especially for undergraduate students in the above-mentioned growth areas.
The teaching load is 4 courses per year (2 courses per semester), including at least one large lecture course for a general undergraduate audience, and regular graduate seminars.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will mentor students, conduct scholarly research, and provide department, university, and community service as appropriate for faculty at the rank of Assistant Professors.
As a member of the College of L&S, the successful candidate will also proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college's commitment to diversity among all aspects of their teaching, research, and service.
