Seeking a German Teacher for our Adult Conversational German I and II for 2024 - 2025 School Year!
The German School of Madison offers high quality language and culture classes for children ages 3 years through the teen years as well as adults.
The school offers weekly classes for children who are native speakers (typically, these students have at least one parent who speaks German at home) and those who are foreign language learners, with large variation in abilities.
The school’s core mission is to make German language instruction available to all area children who are interested.
The school prides itself on small class size, a unified approach to curriculum, and highly-trained teaching staff.
The German School of Madison also organizes a number of well-attended, family friendly events throughout the year, which serve to educate children about German culture and to build connections within the Madison German-speaking community.
Classes are held at Lake Edge United Church of Christ (on Buckeye Road).
We are currently seeking a teachers for our Adult Conversational German I and II language program, which offers instruction for adults.
The position requires approximately 2.
5 hours per week of in-class time, as well as preparation time.
Teaching at GSoM involves holding classes during the academic year which starts October 2024 and ends May 2025.
The regular class takes place every Saturday (some Saturdays off due to school breaks, etc.

Instructors are responsible for teaching adult students at a variety of ability levels how to speak, write, and understand German, working within our curriculum structure.
We utilize an immersion approach to teaching; thus the primary language of instruction is German, even at beginning levels.
*Primary Responsibilities*
* Introduce students to German language and culture
* Provide effective German reading and writing instruction to students with varying literacy and skill levels
* Create instructional materials and resources to supplement textbook; create appropriate lesson plans
* Conduct assessments and monitor students’ progress
* Work with planning committee and fellow teachers to facilitate semester planning
* Design and lead a variety of age-appropriate activities with young children, using a language immersion approach; support language learning for the future

* *Native or near-native proficiency in German*
* Experience in working with adults preferred but not required
* Prior teaching or tutoring experience
* Ability to adjust curriculum and instructional approaches to meet the needs of individual students
* Excellent communication skills
* First-hand knowledge of German culture through study abroad or extended stay (preferred)
* Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a range of $30 - $40 per instructional hour.
Teachers must hold a valid work permit for the USA.
