Benefits: Eligible (details below) Direct Reports: None Last Modified: March 2024 Position Description The Middle School (MS) Enrichment Coordinator assists in the development and delivery of programming for MS age youth.
Program objectives include academic development and support, community engagement and life-skills development, and health and wellness.
This position will plan and deliver programming to inform, educate, and empower the youth transitioning into young adulthood.
Requirements: Qualifications Pass Background Check (National/County Criminal, Global Watchlist, SSN Trace, Sex Offender) Valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report to be trained to drive a GCC van.
Minimum two years working in an after-school setting/youth program planning.
Preferred prior experience working with middle/high school age youth.
Preferred already established connections with Dane Co.
school districts and alternative programs.
Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), facilitating, and leadership skills.
Mature attitude, creative, resourceful, and a positive role model for youth.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Knowledge of and experience with: problem solving; behavior management; and conflict de-escalation/resolution Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Ability to work in multiple environments (i.
e.
indoors, outdoors, schools, office, and out of office).
Occasional weekend and evening hours based on program needs.
Responsibilities Support middle school experiential learning through after school and summer programming.
Ensure youth have timely transportation to and from the center.
Ensure youth have dedicated time to complete homework and provide tutoring as needed.
Develop and conduct small-group mini courses based on youth interest and your unique skills.
Conduct and support whole-group activities including planning.
Support youth transitioning from 5th to 6th grade during summer program using the community gardens to plant, maintain, harvest, and cook organic food and running areas of GCC’s CSA and Canning.
Provide opportunities for youth to explore Madison and the surrounding areas of the community.
Expose youth to new experiences throughout the community.
Help youth grow a supportive network, be self-advocates, an active community member, and ultimately obtain a High School Diploma.
Provide youth with an environment where their voice is heard and reflected in programming.
Recruit youth for programming by building connections with school staff, peer recommendations, and family enrollment with a heightened focus on at-risk youth and youth from low-income areas.
Provide youth with positive behavior management, conflict resolution and engagement opportunities.
Ensure programming meets center/contract/grant standards and requirements.
Meet with school-day staff and principles at partnering schools (O’Keefe, Whitehorse, East High School).
Maintain a regular presence at partnering schools through attending various club meetings, extracurricular events, classes, and lunch times to further develop and foster youth relations.
Monitor youth academic progress throughout the school year including collecting data for reporting.
Collect, conduct, and report youth attendance tracking, recording meal counts, and transportation.
Maintain MS youth files and ensure all required paperwork, permissions, and approvals are on hand.
Collaborate with GCC College Readiness team including the Family Advocate to maintain accurate case management.
